To be eligible for the scholarships, the following criteria must be met:

  • Completed application
  • Full or part-time undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited Colorado institution in good standing.
  • Pursuing business or information systems related degrees, such as: Business Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Accounting, Business or Computer Science.
  • Must be a currently enrolled student.
  • Provide a copy of transcripts to prove enrollment. Transcripts do not need to be official transcripts - transcripts printed by the student from the University's system are acceptable.
  • Prepare a typed single spaced essay/paper that is 2-3 pages discussing the topic listed below:

Originally computer systems were big, centralized, and extremely expensive. Therefore IT auditing was focused on controls around programming errors (bugs) and CPU and disk usage. With the evolution of networking and end user computing, IT auditing shifted focus to protecting data through network and database access controls and the need for better System Development Lifecycle processes was critical.

Today, disk is cheap, clustered CPUs have made cloud computing a reality and most importantly businesses are frequently moving toward collaborative projects or development. So while the traditional IT controls are still important, an IT Auditor today must be extremely dynamic in their skill set to help identify risk to their organization. The lines between Financial, Operational, and IT auditing have blurred as a result.

For this paper, we want you to discuss the merits of IT auditing and how it relates to today’s changing business and integrated IT environment. The essay can also incorporate what the most important skills of an IT auditor are today, how one can develop those skills and gain good experience, and ideas over whether IT Auditing is an entry level step toward a corporate career path, or a specialization unique to itself.

  • Final Recipients will be asked to attend a complimentary ISACA meeting in order to present the scholarship and meet the membership.
  • ISACA members are not eligible, with the exception of student members.

Applications, transcripts, and essays must be mailed to ISACA by February 28, 2010 (see mailing instructions on application). Applications and essays MUST also be emailed to scholarship@isaca-denver.org by February 28, 2010. Applications and essays/papers will be evaluated by volunteer ISACA members. Funds will be issued directly to the student by the ISACA Denver Chapter.
